Luther League is the high school age youth group of Good Shepherd. They assist in the leadership of the worship services, assist with church choir, food drives and other service projects. They also enjoy many fun activities such as sledding and tubing and miniature golfing. The highlight of the youth program is attending the National Lutheran Youth Convention every three years in various cities throughout the United States.
Christian Concerns is our committee that helps our congregation engage with both the local community and larger charitable efforts through our Concern of the Month. Past causes have included donating prayer books to our troops overseas, collecting diapers and other baby needs for Canton's Pregnancy Support Center, and donating toys and learning materials for local agencies who deal with tramautized children. Meeting times vary.
Membership and Fellowship
Our Membership and Fellowship comittee plans many events throughout the year that build friendships within our congregation. Annual events include our Easter Pancake Breakfast, our summer picnic, weekly domino game nights, trips to local sporting events such as Cleveland Indians games. See the "Events" page for what's coming up.
WELCA is the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church unit of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. We are part of the Canton-Massillon Cluster, the Northeast Synod, and the churchwide WELCA organization. Participation is open to all women in the congregation. At present there are two circles that meet monthly, except July and August, for bible study and fellowship. Hannah Circle meets the first Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. and Hope Circle meets the second Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Three evening general meetings are held in March, September, and December.
Good Shepherd enjoys music from our Adult choir and our Chime Choir, as well as the Second Sunday Singers. We also have various soloist and instrumentalists play throughout the year. Adult choir practice is held September-April on Thursdays at 7pm and Chime Choir practice is held October-April on Wednesdays at 6:45pm.
Summer Lunch Program
The objective of the Summer Lunch Program is to feed local hungry children during ten weeks for the summer by assisting their families with supplemental groceries. The children are from families who are struggling with employment, medical, financial and other issues. We have given assistance to between 80-100 children each year. We create menus, purchase food items, receive food donations and distribute the groceries weekly on Tuesday mornings.
